영어 논문 쓰기 2. Formal academic language style (Guideline 5-8)

가이드라인 1-4에 이어 5-8에 대해 살펴보도록 하겠습니다.

5. Do not use contractions.

줄임말을 쓰지 말라고 하네요.

예) won't --> will not

6. Place adverbs mainly in mid-position in the sentence.

동사를 수식하는 부사를 동사 근처에 두어야 의미가 더 명확하게 전달될 수 있다고 합니다.

예) This model was developed by the international money fund originally.

---> This model was originally developed by the international money fund. 

7. Do not use pronouns referring to the reader and limit pronouns referring to the author.

논문 저자나 독자를 지칭하는 대명사를 쓰지 말라고 합니다. 

예) You can see the results in table 1. ---> Table 1 illustrates the results.

예) We discarded the solution.  ---> The solution was discarded.

하지만 분야에 따라서 'we'를 쓰기도 하니, 분야관련 논문을 살펴보시고 트렌드를 따라 가면 되겠습니다.

8. Limit the use of rhetorical questions. 

If used, restrict to the introduction and conclusion and use sparingly.

가능한 질문형을 쓰지말고 꼭 써야한다면 introduction or conclusion에서 가끔 쓰라고 하네요.

예) What can be done to lower cost?  

--->  This raises the question about how to lower costs.

--->  How to lower costs needs consideration.
